A South African pastor has angered Christians by preaching a sermon entitled Jesus was HIV positive in a bid to combat the stigma surrounding HIV and Aids. "My responsibility as a pastor is to paint a picture of a God who cares for people and wants the best for them, not who judges them and is ashamed of them," Sky News quoted Reverend Xola Skosana as telling the Mail And Guardian newspaper.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that the role of pharmacists in low-income settings be expanded to address the increasing complexity of HIV antiretroviral (ARV) and co-infection drug regimens. However, in many such settings including in India, many pharmacists and pharmacy workers are often neither well trained nor aware of the intricacies of HIV treatment.
Commercial sex workers (CSWs) living in the red light area of Budhwar Peth are struggling to get emergency medical services. Under the aegis of Kayakalp, an NGO working in the citys red light area for controlling HIV infection, the CSWs have decided to take up their plight again with the top government authorities and elected representatives.

We should all learn a lot about the way in which HIV functions, and the complex interactions that occur throughout the body.

A mother-in-law fighting for her daughter-in-law, who was HIV+ and was denied rights in the family, a husband who supported his wife selflessly when her immune system collapsed, and ward boys working beyond duty hours to look after patients in Anti Retroviral Therapy centers - these are stories of people who took care of their HIV+ loved ones. Compiled into 15 series, a radio prgramme on HIV positive people from the heart of Maharashtra is ready to go on air.
Some HIV-positive women who want to have children feel stigmatised by their doctors.
On Tuesday's WUPY session we will watch the Oscar winning film Philadelphia from 1993.
The movie will be followed by a discussion. We will talk about how HIV/AIDS and stigma is portrayed in Philadelphia, movies in general and what this might say about and affect the social outlook of HIV in 1993 and today.
