    It has been over three years since a private complaint was filed in a city court against Siddharth Jondhale of Vazirabad, in Nanded district, for allegedly making false claims of curing HIV and AIDS patients. But the case has made hardly any headway.

  • HIV+ couple in Pune set to tie the knot

  • With 120 HIV infected inmates, Yerawada tops prisons in state

    PUNE: In the cramped, often unhygienic conditions of the 29 central and district jails in the state where medical care is down to the basics, 467 inmates have tested positive for HIV infection in the last two years. Yerawada Central Jail in Pune has 120 HIV infected inmates, the highest in the state.

  • Wedding Bells Ring on World AIDS Day

    On Wednesday, as a middle-aged couple exchanged marital vows, a motley crowd of curious onlookers gathered around to see the reason behind the modest looking couple receiving so much media attention. What set this marriage apart was the fact that they were a couple living with HIV/AIDS and decided to marry each other on the occasion of World AIDS Day.

  • State children protection scheme to focus on HIV+ ones

  • Series of events planned for AIDS awareness

    Ahead of World AIDS Day (December 1), Wake Up Pune, an awareness campaign of Deep Griha Society that has been sensitising the public about HIV, said there was a demand for sex education at schools. Children are clueless as they do not get information at schools or homes, says Ryan Beck Turner, coordinator of the Wake Up Pune campaign.

  • Maharashtra makes good progress in dealing with HIV

    PUNE: Maharashtra has reported significant strides in assisting HIV+ patients, in terms of treatment and counselling, as well as in reducing the number of new infections. While the number of people who accessed the state-run Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres (ICTCs) rose from 93,650 in 2008 to 11,53,810 in 2010, the rate of HIV prevalence showed a decline from 16.42% in 2002 to 4.72% in 2010, said Dilip Deshmukh, additional project director of the Maharashtra State AIDS Control Society (MSACS), on Monday.
