“Afraid of getting HIV from swimming pool”

I want to join a swimming tank. Is there any risk of getting HIV infection? I always get cuts on my body due to my profession (Electrcal engineer) and also have pimples on face and armpit. What precaution do I have to take or is it better not to join the swimming tank?

No, there is no risk of getting HIV from a swimming pool. HIV is only transmitted in four ways: through unprotected sex, shared needles, exchange of blood and mother-to-child. For the virus to spread through blood, the infected blood must come in contact with either another person’s sexual fluids (semen, pre-cum, vaginal fluid) or a massive amount of blood (for example, during a blood transfusion). The HIV virus also only survives in sexual fluids, breast milk or blood–not in saliva, water or anything else. So, there is absolutely no way that you could get HIV from swimming. You don’t need to worry about taking any precautions and should just enjoy swimming at the pool. Tell your friends and family about the four ways of transmission and if you want more information about how HIV is transmitted, look on our website. I hope that this answers your question.

Kind regards,
