“Protected sex – am I infected?”

I had a protected vaginal sex with a sex worker around 22yrs old…..but stiil I would like to confirm whether I’m infected…..I was exposed 5 days before…..when shoud I have the HIV test done? Can I test right now or after 3 weeks? Please answer fast.

I am glad to hear that you used a condom. As long as the condom did not break or tear, the chance that you have HIV is very very small. You do not need to worry.

If you are still worried, you can get tested in a few days (one week after exposure) and can then get tested again up to three months after the incident. Almost 100% of people infected with HIV show antibodies after three months, so a negative result three months after exposure means that you definitely do not have HIV. You can get tested for free at our centre (13 Tadiwala Rd) or a number of other centres around the city. I hope that this information is helpful.
