    पुणे -  à¤ªà¥à¤£à¥à¤¯à¤¾à¤šà¥à¤¯à¤¾ बी. जे. वैद्यकीय महाविद्यालयातील सिद्धार्थ शहा या विद्यार्थ्याने केलेल्या "एचआयव्ही'च्या रुग्णांना झालेला अतिसार' यावरील संशोधनाची दखल आंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तरावर घेण्यात आली. वैद्यकीय क्षेत्रातील आंतरराष्ट्रीय परिषदेला हजेरी लावणारा हा देशातील पहिलाच विद्यार्थी ठरला. विशेषत: "एचआयव्ही'मध्ये संशोधन करून संबंधित रुग्णांसाठी काम करण्याचे त्याचे उद्दिष्ट असल्याचे त्याने "सकाळ'शी बोलताना सांगितले.

  • NACO for free condoms at Commonwealth Games

    The guests at the Commonwealth Games could avail themselves of free condoms at some selected places, if the proposal by the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) materialises. Condoms also can be bought at vending machines to be put up at all the venues.

    The National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO)s new Rs 75-crore plan targets to promote condom use by inundating the country with 480 million packs by July 2011.

  • HIV widow, children forced to flee home

    Exactly a year after parents in Hasegaon of Latur district withdrew their children from a school which had eight HIV-positive orphans, the states hinterland has thrown up another tale of stigmatisation. Social activists say that the villagers of Longhe near Kolhapur reportedly subjected a HIV-positive widow and her children to such discrimination that the three were forced to flee to Mumbai.

  • Female condom programme shows good results in six states

    Addressing the problem of male partner not being interested in condom use, a female condom programme being implemented in six states has indicated high levels of acceptance among sex workers and nearly five per cent reduction in unprotected sex. The Female Condom (FC) programme was implemented through selected NGOs in six states.

  • Over 150 come for matrimonial meet for HIV+, 10 find partners

    On Sunday, the Agrasen Bhavan Hall at Raviwar Peth saw over 150 HIV-positive persons gathering together in the hope of finding a suitable life partner and at least 10 marriages were reportedly fixed at the meet.
